How did our little micro winery come about?
This is the story behind it.
As a freedom loving person, Werner managed to escape adventurously but successfully from communist Romania to Germany in 1987. With his desire to see the world he traveled to various remote places within the following years.
Werner met Karin at an opening of an art exhibition in Nuremberg where she had moved to from Ludwigsburg. Karin is a sports and gymnastics teacher and studied dance pedagogy and used to train professional athletes in soccer, ice hockey and other sport disciplines.
Karin and Werner share their love for the “southern lifestyle” and discovered their passion for good wine and Mediterranean food. After the birth of their daughter Jolina, they took all their courage together and bought a vineyard with a small cellar in Szent György Hegy, near Lake Balaton. This was the start of a happy and natural life that shapes them to this day.
Their first steps in making wine were very demanding but neighbors and friends were there to help and support the new winemakers so that a friendly bond built up. In addition, a professional cellar master taught Werner about quality and character of wine. In 2019 Werner and Karin Pál were able to present a remarkable debut wine!
Today they cultivate one hectare of land and they focus on two grape varieties: Red Cabernet Sauvignon and White Pinot Blanc. They were one of the first on the Szent György Hegy region who started to grow the fruity-tart Pinot Blanc on volcanic terroir. And the result proved them right: They create a deliciously fruity and „volcanically“ balanced wine – manufactured in their small but fine cellar.
On our terrace with a fantastic view of the Badacsony mountain and surroundings, guests will be served small culinary surprises and wine, vegetables and some fruits from our garden. You can also taste our home- made fruity fig chutney as example. Starting on 3th of June 2023.
